Today I begin scanning. I’m not done with the animation – not by a long shot – but I’m attempting to get some things scanned as I go in order to try to keep from getting bogged down with it later on. I enjoy working in little batches — animate a few shots, clean them up and paint them, and then scan them, rather than doing it all at once. I suppose in theory it’s less efficient, but I find that doing huge batches of one thing leaves me bored and distracted and less likely to focus.
Focus is something that comes easily sometimes, and other times I just end up staring out the window. Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of audiobooks while doing cleanup and colouring work (I can only listen to music or have silence while doing any sort of less straightforward work). Thus far it’s been The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway, a collection of short stories by Poe, and I’m now in the midst of Madame Bovarie (I can’t remember the author’s name off the top of my head). I was going to listen to A Clockwork Orange as well, but wasn’t in the mood. It’s nice to think how when it is done I will think of certain scenes or shots with these stories in the back of my mind. Seems an awful lot is tromping around Paris drinking too much, which isn’t a connecting theme I had in mind when choosing the books but I find it amusing nonetheless.
